ITALIAN CABANA

Reminiscent of architecture found in the rolling hills of Italy, this outdoor Italian Cabana fuses old world style with contemporary luxury.

TAP Architecture envisioned this Italian Cabana for all-day entertaining and convenient access to a large in-ground swimming pool. We integrated classical architectural proportions to guide this project.

Incorporating natural materials in the same way Italians would have centuries ago, we constructed stucco arches and bold columns – as their use in architectural design originated in Ancient Rome. Relying heavily on other Italianate elements, we integrated timber wood trusses overhead and roof tiles laid in the traditional “imbrex and tegula” pattern, which was used by Ancient Romans.

To add elements of luxury, we included contemporary essentials including a custom grill station, custom dining table and custom sink and pedestal with a stained-glass window in the bathroom; all designed by TAP Architecture. For servicing the entertained, a butler pantry with a copper, kidney-shaped sink designed to be accessible from two rooms through an arched opening in the wall. Phantom screens drop from the outer arches to provide shelter, and internal heating allows for year-round use.

We meticulously governed every aspect of this project, from custom cabinet design to the choice of ornamental details for the powder room mirror. To add a delicate touch, one of our principals and his wife served as artisans for the bright blue and yellow stained-glass window found in the Italian Cabana’s private bathroom.
