GREEN LAKE RESIDENCE

If you own a lake home, you may not be aware that setback laws have changed over time. If your home was allowed to be built closer to the lake than current regulations permit, you probably wouldn’t want to tear it down and lose that proximity.

Our client’s home on Green Lake was originally built in the 1960s and was considered a complete tear-down. However, the owners were determined to keep it because rebuilding would have required the new design to be about 20 feet farther from the lake. Despite their desire for a modernized residence, the outdated appearance of the original structure posed a significant challenge.

BEFORE

We addressed this challenge by designing the exterior to blend with the surroundings, and maintaining a connection with the site rather than creating an overly imposing structure. We were mindful of obstructing the views of the neighbors and ensured that the details blended harmoniously with the landscape.

We focused on the interior and designed the space to be open and expansive. The result is a modern and transitional design, with the outdated details replaced by modern elements that seamlessly flow through the spaces and offer multiple views of the lake.

The final result transformed the home from its ’60s origins to a bright, contemporary space that will remain modern for years to come.
